The PEACE Ministers are striving to discover the needs in our local communities where we might serve. Proceeds from a concert held Dec. 20 will benefit the Franklin Food Pantry.

Overtures to nearby faith communities, in particular the Muslim mosque in Sharon, are ongoing to seek ways of learning about other faiths and working in collaboration with them on such things as the Season for Nonviolence.

Issues of homelessness and hunger are increasingly being made known in our communities. Community dinners or soup kitchens are available and people may volunteer at the following:

Our Daily Bread is an ecumenical soup kitchen which has been operating since 1985 in Taunton. Meals are served at 11:15 to 1:00 each day at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Phone 508-824-1788

Day of Mindfulness

On January 2, 2010 the PEACE Ministry will host its first Day of Mindfulness: Fresh Beginnings, Mindful Living in the New Decade. The day-long program will be led by esteemed Dharma Teacher, Joanne Friday, who will share Engaged Buddhist practices for maintaining peace, joy and equanimity.

A Season for Nonviolence

The Peace Ministry joins the national campaign, "A season for Nonviolence" January 30 to April 4 which demonstrates that nonviolence is a powerful way to heal, transform and empower our lives and communities. This annual event honors the vision and commitment of Mahatma Gandi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and this year the PEACE Ministry is seeking to partner with other faith communities in spreading the news and celebration of this important vehicle for peace.
